Guided Meditation
Coming Back to Your True Self
A gentle meditation for reconnecting with who you really are, underneath all the shoulds and expectations.
It’s easy to lose touch with yourself. We shape ourselves around what other people need. We take on roles, meet expectations, become who the situation asks us to be. And slowly, quietly, we can drift from the person underneath all of it.
Your true self didn’t go anywhere. It’s still there, under the noise and the shoulds and the years of adapting. Sometimes it just needs a quiet moment, and a bit of permission, to come back into view.
This meditation is that quiet moment. A gentle pause to set down who you think you’re meant to be, and remember who you actually are.
When you’re ready, settle somewhere comfortable and press play. Nothing to become, nothing to fix. Just a few minutes to come back to yourself.

What You’ll Experience
Remember who you are underneath it all.
We spend so much of life adapting to other people that we can forget we’re allowed to simply be ourselves. This meditation gently turns your attention back inward, towards your own worth, your own voice, and the self that’s been there all along.
Reconnect With Yourself
Set down the roles and expectations, and come back to who you are underneath.
Remember Your Worth
Recognise that you don’t have to earn your value by being who others want.
Hear Your Own Voice
Notice what you actually think and want, apart from everyone else’s opinions.
Feel More Like You
Leave with a quieter, steadier sense of being at home in yourself.
Gentle Reflection
After listening, you might like to sit with these questions.
No need to answer them all. Choose the one that speaks to you, and see what comes up.
1. Where in my life am I being who I think I should be, rather than who I am?
2. When do I feel most like myself, and what am I usually doing then?
3. What’s one small way I could honour who I really am today?

Sometimes a meditation isn’t the end of the conversation.
Sometimes it’s the start of one. If today’s meditation has left you feeling more open or curious, you might enjoy Book Quote Therapy, my literary companion site where books, poems, quotations and Literary Prescriptions are gathered for different seasons of life.
For this meditation, I’d point you towards these Literary Prescriptions:
Self-Love : for treating yourself as someone worth knowing.
Worthiness : for the days you forget you’re enough as you are.
Finding Yourself Again : for reconnecting with who you actually are.
All gentle reminders that the person you’re looking for has been here the whole time.
