Guided Meditation

Being Kind to Yourself

A gentle meditation for letting go of self-criticism and offering yourself the kindness you give so freely to everyone else.

If a friend came to you struggling, you wouldn’t pile on. You’d be gentle. You’d remind them they’re human, that they’re doing their best, that it’s okay.

So why is it so much harder to offer yourself the same thing? Most of us save our harshest voice for ourselves, and our kindness for everyone else.

This meditation is a chance to redirect a little of that kindness inward. To soften the criticism, and speak to yourself the way you’d speak to someone you love. Not because you’ve earned it, but because you’re human, and that’s enough.

When you’re ready, settle somewhere comfortable and press play. There’s nothing to fix or prove here. Just a few minutes of warmth, offered inward for once.

A soft, warm scene in gentle light, a calm setting for self-compassion

What You’ll Experience

Offer yourself the kindness you give everyone else.

Self-compassion isn’t indulgent, and it isn’t letting yourself off the hook. It’s simply kindness, redirected to where it’s often needed most. This meditation gently loosens the grip of self-criticism and helps you build a warmer, steadier relationship with yourself.

Soften the Criticism

Ease the harsh inner voice that judges you far more than you deserve.

Speak to Yourself Kindly

Practise offering yourself the same gentleness you’d give a struggling friend.

Let Go of Perfection

Loosen the idea that your worth depends on getting everything right.

Feel Warmer Within

Leave with a gentler, kinder relationship with yourself.

Gentle Reflection

After listening, you might like to sit with these questions.

No need to answer them all. Choose the one that lands, and be gentle with whatever comes up.

1. What would I say to a friend who felt the way I do right now?

2. Where am I holding myself to a standard I’d never expect of anyone else?

3. What would change if I spoke to myself with a little more kindness?

When this meditation may help

Come back whenever your inner voice turns harsh.

Self-compassion isn’t a one-off. It’s a practice, returned to whenever the critical voice gets loud again. This meditation is here for the moments you need to meet yourself with a little more warmth.

When you’re being hard on yourself

The inner critic is loud, and kindness is the last thing you’re offering yourself.

After a mistake

You’re replaying something you got wrong and struggling to let it go.

When you feel you’re not enough

You’re measuring yourself against a standard that never feels met.

When you need some warmth

You’d simply like to be gentler with yourself for a while.

Sometimes a meditation isn’t the end of the conversation.

Sometimes it’s the start of one. If today’s meditation has left you feeling more open or curious, you might enjoy Book Quote Therapy, my literary companion site where books, poems, quotations and Literary Prescriptions are gathered for different seasons of life.

For this meditation, I’d point you towards these Literary Prescriptions:

Self-Compassion : for meeting your own struggles with warmth.

Kindness to Yourself : for speaking to yourself the way you’d speak to a friend.

Worthiness : for the reminder that you don’t have to earn kindness.

All gentle reminders that you’re as deserving of your own kindness as anyone else.
