Guided Meditation
A Return to Now
A gentle grounding meditation for coming back to the present, without clearing your mind or getting anything right.
This meditation is a return to now. Not in a dramatic way, and not in a clear-your-mind-completely way. Just a gentle coming back.
So much of our energy gets pulled into what’s already happened or what might happen next. Regrets replay, worries rehearse, and the present moment, the only place we can actually live, gets overlooked.
Here, we slow everything down. Through simple grounding and steady awareness, you begin to notice what’s here without trying to change it. The breath. The body. The quiet underneath the noise. You don’t need experience, and you don’t need to do it perfectly. Just a few minutes and a willingness to pause.
When you’re ready, settle in and press play. Nothing to force here. Settle in, breathe, and allow yourself to be exactly where you are.
Listen to the meditation
One gentle note: meditation works best as a regular practice, not a one-off. A few minutes most days will do far more than an occasional longer session, so if it helps, let this become a small part of your daily rhythm.
What You’ll Experience
Come back to the present, without forcing anything.
Peace isn’t always something we find. Sometimes it’s something we stop running from. This meditation helps you slow down and come back to the present, easing the constant pull of past and future so calm can settle on its own.
Let Go of Overdrive
Ease out of mental overdrive and the endless turning-over.
Anchor in Your Body
Come back to the breath and the body, here and now.
Ease Past and Future
Loosen the pull of what’s been and what might be.
Find Calm Naturally
Let calm arrive on its own, without forcing it.
Gentle Reflection
After listening, you might like to sit with these questions.
No need to answer them all. Choose the one that lands, and see what surfaces.
1. Where does my mind go most, into the past or the future?
2. What’s actually here in this moment, if I stop to notice?
3. What am I running from that I could simply stop and feel?
Continue the Reflection
Sometimes a meditation isn’t the end of the conversation.
Sometimes it’s the start of one. If today’s meditation has left you feeling more open or curious, you might enjoy Book Quote Therapy, my literary companion site where books, poems, quotations and Literary Prescriptions are gathered for different seasons of life.
For this meditation, I’d point you towards these Literary Prescriptions:
Overthinking : for the pull of past and future thinking.
Stillness : for the quiet underneath the noise.
Quiet : for coming back to the present moment.
All gentle reminders that sometimes peace is simply what we stop running from.
