A Gentle Daily Practice
Your Gratitude Jar
A gratitude jar is one of the simplest ways to train your mind to notice the good that is already present in your life. It isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s about gently collecting the moments that might otherwise be forgotten.
Over time, those tiny moments become a beautiful reminder that even during difficult seasons, there was still kindness, beauty, hope and joy to be found.
How to Create Your Gratitude Jar
You’ll Need
- A jar, box or container.
- Small pieces of paper or gratitude slips.
- A pen.
- One or two quiet minutes each day.
Each Day
Write down just one thing you’re grateful for. It could be something big or something beautifully ordinary.
- A kind conversation.
- The smell of fresh coffee.
- Birdsong outside your window.
- A walk in nature.
- A peaceful cup of tea.
- Getting through a difficult day.
Fold the paper and place it into your jar. Then leave it there. Resist the temptation to read them straight away. The magic comes from collecting them over time.
When to Read Them
Many people enjoy opening their gratitude jar at the end of the year, on New Year’s Day, on their birthday, or simply whenever they need reminding that life has contained far more beautiful moments than they realised.
One Last Thought
Some days your note might simply say,
“I kept going today.”
That is enough. Gratitude isn’t about finding extraordinary moments. It’s about noticing that ordinary life has been quietly offering gifts all along.
